Requirement:
Develop a system that would provide environmental protection for the X-38 Deorbit Propulsion Stage.
Design a light weight container capable of withstanding road and air transportation loads with minimal deflections.
Ensure container can withstand a 0.75 psi pressure differential.
Solution:
Developed a composite foam-core/aluminum structural skin to ensure system met weight, deflection and budget requirements.
Develop an aluminum frame to minimize deflections and stresses on foam-core/aluminum skin panels.
Utilized Nastran Finite Element Analysis system to substantiate system deflections and structural integrity.
Utilized the ProE CAD system to develop and evaluate system designs, clearances, and weights.
